Director of Operations
The Washington State Budget & Policy Center seeks an experienced, effective, and motivated Director of Operations. The Director of Operations is a key leadership position for the Budget & Policy Center. The Director of Operations will work closely with the Executive Director to strengthen the organization overall and increase its effectiveness. This person must have the interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with allies, board members, funders and other stakeholders, and be attentive to details.
The Washington State Budget & Policy Center is an independent, progressive policy organization that works to create a just and prosperous state through sound research and analysis. The organization provides independent, credible analysis of Washington’s state budget, tax, and related policy matters with attention to the effects of current or proposed policies on low- and moderate-income persons.
Principal Responsibilities
Leadership
- Provide strategic organizational guidance and support to Executive Director
- Help to ensure fidelity of organizational mission and vision in all products and projects
- Help to guide, build and support staff and assist with project management
- Develop internal strategic plan with Executive Director and ensure strategic plan accountability with staff
Board Engagement
- Assist Executive Director in providing board members with information, tools, and resources that enable the board to govern and support the organization effectively
- With Executive Director, serve as conduit between board members and staff
- Coordinate logistics for board meetings
Finance/Compliance
- Maintain and ensure compliance with organizational financial controls and with all federal state and city regulations, including annual reports and licensing
- Staff board finance committee and work with them to develop and manage the organizational budget and semi-monthly financial reports
- Coordinate with contract bookkeeper to manage income and expenses, including check processing and donor/vendor information
Human Resources
- Serve as the human resources point person and prepare job descriptions and contracts, tax forms for new staff and contractors and administer employee benefits
- With board and Executive Director, develop and maintain employment policies
Development
- Review grant proposals and reports and oversee preparation of financial statements
- Manage relationships and reporting with sub-grantees and grantors
Knowledge and Skills
- Demonstrated leadership experience in a similar nonprofit setting
- Excellent interpersonal, teamwork and diplomacy skills
- Experience in managing contact relationship management databases; experience with Salesforce is a plus
- Have working knowledge of website management and email marketing
- Proficiency with Office suite
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, and strong attention to detail
- An ability to work flexible hours as necessary, including evenings for special events
- Sensitivity toward cultural, racial, ethnic, socio-economic, and sexual identity diversity
- Commitment to the mission of the Budget & Policy Center
Salary and Benefits
This is a full-time position. The salary range is $63,000 - $68,000 depending on qualifications. The Budget & Policy Center offers a comprehensive benefit package including health and dental insurance, life and long term disability insurance, retirement, flexible spending accounts and generous vacation, sick leave, and holiday schedules.
