As our state struggles with record budget shortfalls, it is vital that we all understand the impact of cuts on our communities.

The state budget is a reflection of our goals and values.  The budget decisions we make in Washington impact our ability to educate our children, maintain the health and well-being of our families, and build our economic future.  Far more than just an accounting exercise, our state budget determines the well-being of Washington state.

We created The Progress Index interactive site to analyze the state budget and track whether budget decisions are resulting in progress toward our values.  Within the Progress Index, state budget data are presented within four core value areas – education & opportunity, thriving communities, economic security, and healthy people & environment.  The site allows users to track recent budget investments and cuts within each value area, while simultaneously illustrating the impact on Washingtonians.

Read more about The Progress Index and other reform components in Framework for Prosperity, which details our vision to ensure long-term state growth.
