As Legislators begin to tackle the 2011-13 biennial budget, they will utilize the Governor’s proposal as a foundation to craft their own balanced budget.

Governor Gregoire’s proposal is a short-sighted, all-cuts budget that would result in unacceptably painful and economically-damaging cuts to many core public systems needed to sustain our economic recovery. Her proposed budget makes $4 billion in reductions on top of $5 billion in cuts already taken in the last two years.

The proposal fails to include much-needed revenue reforms that preserve essential, voter-approved commitments to health care, education and other vital public priorities while the economy recovers. Read our in-depth analysis of the Governor’s budget proposal here.
