Let’s create a tax code that works for everyone
Thriving communities require dependable resources, where everyone pitches in their share. But our state tax code holds us back. People with low incomes pay a higher share of taxes than the wealthiest 1%; and corporations and special interests get tax breaks. And given the persistence of policies that direct wealth toward white people and exclude Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) from wealth, the tax code is especially harmful to BIPOC. Advocates have made progress in recent years toward helping pass reforms, and more needs to be done.
