Budget Matters Conference

Budget Matters 2017

For the first time ever this year, we're holding a Budget Matters policy summit in Spokane (on October 31) and in Seattle (on December 6). The keynote speaker in Spokane is Jared Bernstein from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. The keynote speaker in Seattle is Glenn Harris from Race Forward. Click here for more details.

History of Budget Matters

In 2012, we proudly held the first-ever budget and policy conference in Washington state. Since then, our successful Budget Matters Policy Conference has annually attracted more than 300 advocates, policy experts, legislators, and more from around the state -- gathered to shape the debate on policy priorities and how to create shared prosperity.

In 2015, in response to partner feedback, we started something new. During supplemental budget years, we are hosting a half-day Budget Matters Summit focused on big-picture policies. (In 2015, that big-picture policy focus was the need to advance racial equity in policymaking.) In years when the biennial budget will be released in the upcoming legislative session, we will still offer the full-day Budget Matters Policy Conference. We think this format will allow us to keep the content fresh in supplemental budget years.

Some of the influential presenters at previous Budget Matters conferences include Gov. Jay Inslee, Heather McGhee from Demos, and Van Jones from Rebuild the Dream. If you missed out or want to relive some of the highlights from those events, select the links below:
